Billionaire businessman Tilman Fertitta is hiring 600 people for his new multi-use high-rise hotel near the Galleria.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Every day brings the construction zone next to Landry's Corporate Headquarters closer to becoming the Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston, but to make that happen, Landry's is looking for 600 employees.

Applicant Josette Akiki is a college student, about to graduate from the UH Hilton College.

"I'm looking for a management position in guest services," Akiki said.

Along with other applicants we spoke with, she's intrigued by the scale and quality of the project.

"This is the kind of beautiful hotel we've never had in Houston and I want to be the first, one of the first people to work in it," says applicant Firmin Mahoungou.

The Post Oak General Manager Jorge Gonzalez says they're hoping to fill positions from accounting and payroll to the front desk, housekeeping and servers.

"One of the most important things we're looking at is the right selection of the right person, to be sure that we train the individual to be a lasting member of the team," says Gonzalez.

He says the hotel is working with Forbes Travel Guide to create five-star operating standards. It's the kind of work experience Akiki says she couldn't gain just anywhere.

"After Harvey and everything, a lot of people lost their jobs, so it's a beautiful place to come look for a job. If you don't want to feel like you're going to work everyday, hospitality and hotels are so much fun," Akiki said.
