Music fest on Vegas shooting: 'We will not let hate win over love'
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (KTRK) -- Despite being "completely devastated" by the mass shooting, organizers of the Route 91 Harvest Festival said they are not letting "hate win over love."
The organizers of the yearly country music event recognized those who rushed into help those wounded in the crowd.
In a statement, the festival said:
On behalf of the entire Route 91 Harvest Family, we are completely devastated by the event that occurred Sunday night.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the injured and the deceased and their loved ones, senseless violence has claimed the souls of our fans and we have little in the way of answers.
Our eternal gratitude goes out to the LVPD, Emergency services, security guards, and fans for their selfless acts of bravery while trying to help those in need.
While we will try and move forward, we will never forget this day.
We will NOT let hate win over LOVE.
We will NOT be defeated by senseless violence.
We WILL persevere, and honor the souls that were lost.
Because it matters.
More than 22,000 people attended Sunday night's slate of performances, which included a closing set by Jason Aldean. In all, at least 59 people were killed and close to 530 others were injured.
After the events of Sunday, Route 91's Twitter account was wiped of older posts that highlighted the weekend up until the shooting. A graphic of an orange ribbon around the Route 91 logo is prominent on the account.
