Mattress Mack hands out $80k for hurricane relief
Local mattress maven Mattress Mack handed out $80,000 in disaster relief funds to four different charitable organizations.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston's charismatic furniture salesman hasn't stopped helping flood victims. Jim McIngvale, best known as "Mattress Mack," made national headlines for transforming his high-end stores into shelters following Hurricane Harvey's torrential rains.

McIngvale did so without hesitation and without being asked by city officials. Eyewitness News caught up with McIngvale Friday afternoon at this warehouse off the North Freeway. He spent all day helping to coordinate donations. McIngvale, his team, and volunteers handed out water, cleaning supplies, and even diapers to those in need.

"The future of Houston is bright. We're a resilient group," said Mattress Mack. "They knocked us down. We are going to get back up because if not for our struggle we would not know our strength. Our strength is as a community and as solidarity. We're finding that right now. The future of Houston is better than ever."
