HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Comcast is opening some 53,000 Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots around the Houston area to help people and emergency workers connect during Hurricane Harvey.

The cable and internet provider is offering the free Wi-Fi to people regardless of whether they subscribe to Comcast.

You can find the nearest Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot at Comcast's website.

When you arrive at the hotspot, select the "xfinitywifi" network name and then launch a browser.

Xfinity customers can sign in with their username and password for automatic access to all Comcast Wi-Fi hotspots. Non-customers can choose "Not an Xfinity Internet Customer" on the sign-in page to get started.

Non-customers will need to renew their Wi-Fi sessions every two hours. The open Wi-Fi offer continues through Wednesday.
