How to escape the trunk of a car
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An Alabama woman escaped a kidnapping attempt by popping open the trunk of a vehicle and jumping out, and her dramatic escape was caught on a gas station surveillance camera. The video now seen around the world has people wondering what would they do if they were in that situation.
To see how difficult it is to get out of a trunk, ABC13 reporter Rebecca Spera locked herself inside one with the help of her photographer, Raul Carmona. Inside the trunk, there is a glow-in-the-dark lever on the trunk door. Spera pulled on that lever, the trunk popped open within seconds and she was able to escape.
A federal law went into effect in 2001 that requires all new cars to have emergency release latches in the trunk, and they have to glow in the dark.
