Police are investigating a dead body found in a burned van in northeast Houston.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating a dead body found in a burned van in northeast Houston.

Firefighters responded to a car fire just after 8am in the 5200 block of E. Houston Rd. where they found a van on fire in a field surrounded by tires and trash. When they extinguished the flames, they found a dead body inside.

Police searched the van and found what they say was an accelerate can with a torch at the end in the back of the van.

Police are questioning a witness who says they saw two people inside a white work truck leaving the area before van fire.

Police say that the van was reported stolen on Dec. 26.
