HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 22-year-old north Harris County man is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl for more than a year. And now, authorities are calling on parents to check their kids' internet activity for potential connections to the suspect in this case.
William Joseph Campbell was arrested today for sexual assault of a child and sexual performance of a child.
Investigators say the two met through friends, and Campbell originated online conversations that turned sexual in nature after a while.
Authorities say he had sexual relations with the girl, and over a period of time, coerced her to send pictures of herself to him via online chat apps.
The female victim made an outcry to family members, and they in turn notified Sheriff's Office personnel who initiated an investigation.
Campbell will be in court for arraignment on Monday.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is encouraging parents to check their children's internet activity to see if any conversations with William Joseph "Joey "Campbell have taken place. Please contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse unit at 713-830-3250.
