HPD: Chase suspect commits suicide, crashes on Gulf Fwy
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say it appears a man committed suicide while leading officers in a chase in southeast Houston.
Officers attempted to pull over a man on the Gulf Freeway near Fuqua overnight.

HPD says when the two officers approached on either side of the vehicle, the officer on the passenger side noticed the driver had a gun.
Officers say the man was acting suspiciously. At one point, he hit the gas, leading police in a chase.
When officers caught up to the suspect, they saw the car had crashed.
HPD says the officers gave verbal commands to the suspect, but could not see the driver inside the vehicle.
When officers were able to finally approach the vehicle, they found the driver had what they believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man has not been identified yet, but is described as a white male between 45-50 years old.
HPD is investigating the matter as a death in custody, which they say is standard anytime someone dies after an interaction with an officer.
