HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The City of Houston Municipal Courts is warning people that companies are using fake text messages to solicit people about their court cases.

Here's how it works: the companies send out a text message that asks people to click a link to reset their cases for a $10 fee. Problem is, the Houston Municipal Courts says it does not send text messages or charge people to reset cases.

"This is not affiliated with the City of Houston Municipal Courts," Barbara E. Hartle, director and presiding judge of the Municipal Courts Department is quoted as saying in a press release.

The Municipal Courts Department adds that if you need information regarding your case or cases, you should contact the Houston Help Line at 713-837-0311 or visit www.houstontx.gov/courts.

Rules and guidelines on how to handle any of your court business, including instructions on how to reset and pay for your cases, along with downloadable forms, are available at no charge at www.houstontx.gov/courts. To speak to someone regarding your court cases, call 311 or 713-837-0311, if outside Houston city limits.
