The Carnival Liberty was kept on lockdown while crew members performed an exhaustive sweep of the ship.

A 33-year-old woman went overboard on a cruise ship Friday, according to officials at Carnival Cruise Line.

In a statement, Carnival says Samantha Broberg was initially reported missing by her traveling companions. Crew members were unable to locate her during an extensive sweep of the ship, and surveillance camera footage appears to show a woman going overboard around 2am.

Passengers aboard the ship say that authorities have posted signs searching for a missing passenger.

"They wanted to check every single room to make sure that every guest was in their room. They were just keeping us updated like, 'We have not found her.' People are talking about it everywhere. They're very sad," passenger Linda Lopez tells Eyewitness News.

On Friday, signs posted around the ship with Broberg's picture asked for anyone with information to contact Carnival's Guest Services.

Coast Guard crews from Texas and Alabama are actively searching in the area where Broberg is believed to have gone overboard, approximately 200 miles southeast of Galveston. Over the weekend, the search has covered more than 3,000 square miles.
