Police say a burglary suspect in Alvin led police in a chase until he crashed.

FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- What began as a break in at a gun store in Alvin has ended in a wreck at a retirement community.

Police say it all happened around 1:30am.

Not long after a suspect rammed a stolen pickup truck into the shop the alarms went off. The suspect then took off leading police on a six mile chase down FM 528 into Friendswood.

Police say the man then crashed through the fence of a nearby retirement community and ran off on foot. Police are still searching for the suspect.

We spoke to the owner of the gun store a few moments shop who is now picking up the pieces of his shattered store entrance.

"Basically the guys decided they wanted to get into my shop, they turned the vehicle around smashing through, jumped out of the vehicle, grabbed about three guns and booked it," says Greg Bell of S&S Gun Store.

Moments ago the police took that stolen truck away, it had come to a stop behind a large daycare center off FM 528, again, that truck is believed to be stolen from Houston.

The suspect is still on the run and is described only as a white male.
