HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A group of students is recovering after getting sick at Wilson Elementary school in west Harris County.

Cy-Fair ISD tells us a small group of students had gastrointestinal symptoms today and their parents were notified. We talked to one mom who says the kids got sick after eating a Thanksgiving meal.

"They said my child was vomiting, had vomited three times, and I needed to come get them," the mother, who didn't want to be identified told abc13. "When I asked what was wrong, they said they didn't know yet."

The fifth grader says the texture of the meal felt strange and it had a weird odor. She says she and her classmates didn't finish the meal.

The district says it is working with the health department, and issued the following statement: "We had a small cluster of students who experienced gastrointestinal symptoms today. These students were assessed by the school nurse and parents of symptomatic students were notified. Wilson administrators and the school nurse will closely monitor students for symptoms of illness and follow criteria set by the Department of State Health Services to protect student health."

We talked with many parents and grandparents picking up kids after school at Wilson Elementary. Their children did not get sick but they certainly want to know more about what happened.

One grandparent says she was there during lunch and saw several kids in the nurse's station. She saw the turkey dinner being served and says from what she saw they ran out of one kind of turkey and began serving a different kind. Parents have very good things to say about the school and are typically happy with the lunches served but they say they want to know the source of the sickness.
