Unclaimed property: How to find if Texas owes you money
In Montgomery County, $31 million is up for grabs in unclaimed property.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- Did you know Texans could be entitled to $4 billion worth of unclaimed property?

In Montgomery County alone, there's $31 million up for grabs according to state officials. County Treasurer Stephanne Davenport wants people to check to see if they have any money coming their way.

Unclaimed property includes abandoned safe deposit box contents, forgotten utility deposits, insurance proceeds, other refunds, and even dormant bank accounts. The Texas Comptroller's office said 28 million properties in the state need to be reunited with their owners.

Treasurer Davenport said everyone should check the Comptroller's unclaimed property website at ClaimitTexas.org or call 1-800-654-FIND (3463).

Starting today at 10am to 6pm, Davenport's office will have people available to help people through the process at the Alan B. Sadler Building Commissioners Court Building.

The physical address is 501 North Thompson, Suit 402 in Conroe. Davenport said the assistance will last through the money for anyone interested.
