HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Firefighters were able to extinguish a one-alarm house fire in Southeast Houston minutes after it broke out.

According to a woman who lives at the home, located on the 3700 block of Bremond Street, the fire started in the kitchen. There were four people inside at the time.

"We were all asleep. My sister-in-law came in the bedroom and asked if she could lay down with us. That's when I smelled the smoke, ran into the back, and saw the flames," said the woman, who asked not to be identified.

The aforementioned resident and neighbors are crediting firefighters for a swift response. The fire was extinguished just before 7:15am.
