What to do if you have a high water bill after Harvey
Some residents report having a high water bill after Hurricane Harvey.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Public works has answers for the 6,000 Houstonians who have received extraordinarily high water bills since Harvey hit.

Those who received a water bill twice as much as normal or more may qualify for one of three adjustments: leak adjustment, unusually large bill or exceptional circumstance adjustment.

Eligible accounts will be placed on hold with no penalties and no disconnection.

If you haven't reported your high bill, you are encouraged to call public works' account services hotline at 713-371-1400.

The agency has yet to determine exactly why the billing mishap occurred.
