HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The warm humid air is back, and the smoky haze from Mexico will return on Thursday.
We started off cloudy Thursday morning but the clouds should part during the afternoon leading to highs in the mid 80s. The sky though, in between the clouds, won't look blue. Instead, it will look more hazy gray as smoke from the seasonal fires in Mexico returns. This smoke will thicken more on Friday. Also, on Friday, there is a 30% chance of thunderstorms north of I-10 as a severe weather system moves into the Plains.
At this time, we expect it to be a warm, humid, and breezy weekend with lows in the mid-70s and highs in the mid-80s. While Saturday should stay mostly dry, we are monitoring the possibility of some strong thunderstorms arriving Sunday as a powerful weather system blows out of the Rockies and into the Plains. These storms could bring heavy rain, and we cannot rule out severe weather at this time.
We currently have no cool fronts in our 10-day forecast, but it's still possible we could get one or two in May before the summer heat settles in for the long haul.
