HOUSTON, Texas -- Country superstar Kenny Chesney is helping those impacted by Hurricane Irma in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands after his home there was destroyed by the storm.

Chesney took to twitter to describe some of the devastation the people of the islands experienced when the storm rolled through.

He said "I've never been to war, but the devastation, the people's faces in a place I know by heart have left me feeling helpless. It's total devastation."

Chesney said most of the island has been displaced and the residents don't know where to turn.

The country singer's home in the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John was destroyed by the hurricane.

He was not in the area at the time of the storm.

Chesney has already started a foundation to help those affected by Irma. Kenny Chesney's Love For Love City is benefitting Hurricane Irma disaster relief in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.
