Today, you have a rare chance to see one of the tools scientists and meteorologists use to learn about hurricanes.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is showing off its P-3 Orion research plane at Ellington Field this afternoon. The planes fly into storms to collect weather data on wind speed and atmospheric pressure.

On top of getting to see the planes up close, you'll be able to meet the crew and staff from the National Hurricane Center, including hurricane specialist Dan Brown and National Hurricane Center director Rick Knabb.

Meteorologist Travis Herzog will be there and is taking your questions to the experts. You can submit them on his Facebook page.

The free public tours of the hurricane hunter aircraft will be available from 3:00 until 4:30 in the afternoon at Ellington Field.

The 2014 hurricane season is less than two weeks away beginning on Sunday, June 1st.
