'We could have got shot': Drivers dodge bullets during shooting in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The evening rush hour turned into a crime scene Thursday as bullets flew in traffic, injuring two people.

Skyeye was over one of the cars involved. It was riddled with as many as 18 bullet holes and blood was on the ground nearby.

"Not sure if it's going to be road rage or what type of shooting this is, but there were two vehicles. One vehicle was shooting at another," explained HPD Southeast Night Shift Lt. Kathy Carey.

One vehicle took off.

Two people, a man and a woman, inside a white Nissan sedan were shot.

The car sat for hours, with both driver's side doors open, at the intersection of Crestmont and the South Loop as police investigated. Another vehicle with a mother, her two children and cousins inside was also hit, shattering two windows.

"It was terrifying," said Audrey Pruneda, 20, who was sitting in the front passenger seat as her mother drove. "Something else could have happened. We could have got shot. Thank God we didn't."

Police did not have a good description of the second vehicle involved.

Lt. Carey told Eyewitness News the victims were stable at a hospital and their injuries were not life-threatening.
