Super Saturday across Houston
Super Saturday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Shoppers packed malls and stores across Houston and America for Super Saturday. For many, it was a fight to get there.

"There's traffic everywhere. Getting off the freeway, even just trying to cross over took us a while," said shopper Maria Garcia outside the Galleria.

It took Cindy Alaniz and her family 30 minutes to find a parking spot at the Galleria.

"Just to look at the decorations. I'm done with my Christmas shopping," Alaniz says.

She says she fought the traffic just to enjoy the crowd with her family.

Ginny Womack and Ann Jackson walked to do their shopping at Rice Village.

"If we had to drive, that would be a lot worse," Womack says. "I don't think we'd come. The parking is pretty terrible."

"That's why I do it online, and I'm sure none of the merchants here want to hear that," adds Jackson. "But it's a lot easier doing it that way."

After a lackluster Black Friday, experts predict Super Saturday will end up being bigger than Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Retailers slashed prices to lure shoppers in. Half off the GAP, 70-percent off most suits at Joseph A. Bank, deep discounts on electronics at Best Buy.

Small businesses are hoping Super Saturday lives up to its name for them too!

"As it is for anybody in retail," says Angie Ford.

Ford owns Premium Kids in Rice Village. Their day got a boost with the release of the latest Air Jordans.

"We actually had a line out the door," she said.

As good as these deals look, Maria Garcia says they're still not worth the traffic, but that won't change her last minute tradition.

"I still wouldn't do it online. I don't like shopping on line that much unless I know exactly what I'm getting."

Shoppers are predicted to spend $10 billion in this one day.
