Travel tips, closure info to help save time, money this holiday

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- If you are getting ready to hit the road for Thanksgiving travel, we have a few tips and closures that can help save you time and money!

Need a ride? SuperShuttle to Bush Intercontinental or Hobby Airport is offering a $2 discount when you book online. And Uber is giving new customers $20 off their first ride with the promo code HOUSTON. On Wednesday, November 26, riders are eligible for a free one-way uberX ride to IAH (up to $50) with the code HipMonk IAH.

METRO will be operating a slightly different schedule for the holiday. On Wednesday, additional Park & Ride routes to and from downtown are available, but no Park & Ride will be available on Thursday and Friday. HOV/HOT lanes will re-open outbound early today, but will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

METRO buses and rail will operate a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day, and a Saturday schedule on Friday.

On Thanksgiving Thursday, the HEB Thanksgiving Day Parade will shut down several streets in downtown. Allen Parkway will be closed inbound at Taft, and outbound between Bagby and Sabine for parade staging. Parade route/closures: Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on Lamar at Smith, north on Smith, east on Walker, south on Milam, west on Pease, north on Louisiana, west on Clay, north on Smith and concludes on at Smith at Dallas.

If you are planning to drive around the Galleria area, keep in mind, the Uptown Houston Holiday Tree lighting ceremony will have a few streets shut down. Post Oak Boulevard will close from San Felipe to Westheimer from 3PM-10PM on Thursday. The free event starts at 4:00pm - over half a million lights will be lit along Post Oak Boulevard. Free parking is available in the Williams Tower and Galleria Parking garages.
