Woman killed when 15-foot fall off freeway rips car apart

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman was killed after police say her car flew off the East Freeway and dropped 15 feet into the woods below.

Police say the accident happened around 1 a.m. It shut down part of the interstate just east of downtown near Waco St.

Police believe the woman was speeding. Her vehicle was torn apart as it hit the trees.

She died on impact.

The man riding with her survived and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.
