Traffic alert for convention in Houston
Katherine Whaley takes a look at the traffic situation as one of the city's biggest conventions heads to town

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Heads up this weekend, if you are planning to travel along the Hardy Toll Road. It will be closed in both directions from I-45 North to FM-1960, from 10pm Friday until 5am on Monday. As your alternate route, use I-45 North instead. These closures are part of the massive Hardy Toll Road remodeling project that is expected to be completed at the end of the year.

Additionally, expect closures along US-59 North. The freeway will be closed in Montgomery County, Northbound from FM-1314 to SH-99, the Grand Parkway. The closure lasts from Friday 8pm until Monday at 6am. The opposite direction will closed off from FM-1485 to SH-99, the Grand Parkway, during the same time period. Detours will be posted in the area, but you can also use the feeder as an alternate route.

I-10 the Katy Freeway will be shut down Eastbound at I-45 from Friday at 9pm to Monday at 5am. You can drive on I-45 Northbound and U-turn at North Main.

A heads up if you work downtown, near the George R. Brown Convention Center. One of the city's biggest conventions is taking place this week. The National Association of Petroleum Engineers Summit runs through February 12. If you are looking for a quick way to get around the area and avoid crowded parking, try Metro's Greenlink Downtown Circulator Bus. It runs every 7 to 10 minutes, Monday through Friday from 6:30am - 6:30pm. The 18 stops connect major office building complexes and hotels with the GRB, Main Street Square, Discovery Green, GreenStreet and City Hall. It's always free!
