Water levels drop as crews pump out W. Beltway
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The frustration mounting on the West Beltway is real, but the good news is things are getting better.
You can see this for yourself as crews pump water from the Beltway between I-10 and Westheimer.
There is about 18 feet of water, but crews tell us that level is receding fast since they arrived to remove the water from the Beltway.
From our vantage point in SkyEye13, you can see the cause for a lot of the frustration lately.
Water has been here for nearly two weeks, but today is the first day that it has receded to the point where TxDOT crews can start pumping that water from the highway to Buffalo Bayou.
As you can imagine, drivers are desperate for relief. But it's important to remember that this is just the beginning.
After the water is all gone, crews will have to look at the retaining walls and the roads to make sure they weren't damaged too badly during Harvey.
So, even when the water is gone, it may be some time before traffic is flowing again here.
