Wisconsin police say a child who pointed a toy gun at other drivers caused a chain reaction car crash

MILTON, WI (KTRK) -- A three-vehicle crash in Wisconsin that left two people hurt is being blamed on a toy gun.

Police say an 11-year-old boy was playing with an airsoft gun in the back seat while his grandmother drove down the highway. At one point, the child pointed the gun out the window at another driver.

"The driver felt threatened, felt concerned that she was going to be shot at, so she abruptly hit the brakes," said Capt. Jude Maurer with the Rock County Sheriff's Dept.

When the driver slammed on her brakes, the car behind her was unable to stop in time, rear-ended her and wound up in the opposite lane of traffic, hitting another car head on.

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The sheriff's office now wants the boy to serve probation for disorderly conduct.

"Will provide him the opportunity to become more well-rounded in his decision-making skills as he matures into adulthood," Maurer said.
