Rosenberg police will beef up patrols in an effort to enforce traffic laws along Highway 59.

ROSENBERG, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities will soon be adding extra patrols in a construction zone along Highway 59 in Rosenberg after a series of recent deadly crashes.

Starting next week, five or six officers will be dedicated to enforcing the 55 mile per hour speed limit. The patrols will be in place on Tuesday and Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Authorities are also reminding motorists that they are required by law to move over if a patrol unit or emergency vehicle is approaching from behind.

In the past six months, there have been four deadly wrecks along the same stretch of highway. Two similar enforcement operations earlier this year resulted in approximately 500 traffic stops.
