Accident sends vehicles into water
Four people were injured and Westheimer was shut down for hours

HOUSTON -- A five-car accident has left four people injured, and a West Houston roadway shut down for hours.

It happened around 6:30am west of South Barker Cypress and Westheimer Parkway.

Police say a white Subaru was traveling westbound on the parkway when the driver lost control, ran over the median, hit a tree, and went airborne. It landed on a Jaguar. The Subaru then hit a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan which then hit a Ford Expedition. All of the cars except the SUV ended up in the water or on the banks of the water. The Jaguar even had to be pried open to get the driver out. The eastbound lanes of Westheimer Parkway were closed for five hours.

The driver of the Jaguar was transported to Ben Taub Hospital with major injuries but is expected to survive.

Three of the other four drivers were transported to local hospitals with minor injures and should make full recovery. There were no passengers in the vehicles. Also, the road was wet, but it wasn't raining at the time.

The driver of the Subaru is not believed to have been intoxicated at the time.
