Flipping car downs power lines on Hillcroft
A violent wreck knocked out power earlier this morning in southwest Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Investigators are working in the dark after a violent and fiery crash brought down some power lines in southwest Houston.

Crews cut power to the area surrounding Hillcroft near Darnell, leaving street lights and electricity out for several blocks.

Witnesses said a serious crash sent a car flipping into a light pole.

Eyewitness Pearl Cabrera recorded this video of the fiery aftermath from the crash

The car caught fire as it flipped, bringing down power lines on both sides of Hillcroft near Beechnut.

Patrol cars are now blocking off the roads to keep people from driving over those power lines.

As for the driver, we have no idea where they are. Police have been unable to tell us what happened to the driver.

Witness Sway Ambrose said he heard the driver is still alive.

"They said they seen the driver get out of the car and he started to run," Ambrose said. "So I guess he escaped the scene."
