Man extracted from car after serious accident on Gulf Freeway

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver was pulled from his vehicle after he was involved in a serious accident in southeast Houston.

Houston police said they believe the driver came off the inbound feeder road at Gulf Freeway and Airport Blvd., veered through a chain link fence, and smashed into a massive crane stored on that lot.

No other vehicles were involved, and there was no indication why the driver lost control of his vehicle.

A heavy rescue unit extracted the man around 6:30am by cutting through the roof of the vehicle. The condition of the driver is not known.

Both the main lanes and inbound feeder road of the Gulf Freeway near the scene are clogged with traffic as commuters slow to observe the scene.

Emergency crews are blocking the right lane of the feeder road, allowing only the left lane to get by the accident.
