Cement truck wreck causes backup
Authorities say the driver was speeding and lost control

HOUSTON -- A cement truck driver who flipped his vehicle this morning in Fort Bend County was speeding, according to state troopers. The truck took out a railroad arm before rolling over at FM 762 and Crabb River Road.

Trooper Carl Currie identified the driver as Jose Guevara, 47, with Express Concrete out of Houston. Currie said witnesses reported Guevara traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Crabb River before hitting the railroad sign.

The accident caused cement to pour out of the truck and drain into a nearby ditch. Eyewitness News saw crews shoveling out that concrete.

"We do have a little bit of concrete that ran off into the drainage," said Sgt. Currie. "They're working on how to mitigate it."

Traffic in the area came to a standstill during rush hour. Crews finally uprighted the truck at 10:15am.

For those passing by, like Fay Oliver, they had to take a second look.

"That's bad. That's bad. That's really bad," said Oliver. "I hate to see that. I hope everyone's OK. I really do."

Troopers said paramedics took Guevara to Oakbend Medical Center in Richmond. While the extent of his injuries were unknown, troopers said Guevara was expected to be released from the hospital.
