Sprint and T-Mobile are closer to a $32 billion deal. If approved, the combined company would have about as many customers as Verizon and AT&T.

Currently, Sprint and T-Mobile are the country's third and fourth largest wireless carriers. A deal for the companies to join forces has been rumored for months, but now appears a deal is in place for Sprint to buy T-Mobile.

The deal would make the new company the third largest carrier by only a few million subscribers. Currently, the wireless carries have the following number of subscribers:

  1. Verizon: 119 million
  2. AT&T: 109 million
  3. Sprint: 54 million
  4. T-Mobile: 45 million

Market experts say such a merger could mean lower prices for subscribers. It could also help both Sprint and T-Mobile provide better coverage.

Sprint and T-Mobile had yet to comment on the deal.
