HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Deputies believe speeding was to blame for a fiery crash that killed one man and sent another one to the hospital.

Harris County sheriff deputies say around 8:00pm last night, a car traveling eastbound on Highway 290 was speeding. As the vehicle began entering the on ramp past Telge, the driver lost control, crashed into a construction site and hit a barrier. The car then burst into flames.

Good Samaritans were able to rescue a male passenger from the burning car, but the male driver died at the scene. The passenger is expected to survive.

The Sheriff's office says the flames were so intense, they burned the VIN off the vehicle.
