Wounded warriors hit the links for the 10th annual Impact a Hero Golf Challenge at the Champions Golf Club

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Champions Golf Club was dressed in red, white and blue Monday for the 10th annual Impact a Hero Golf Challenge.

Ross Cox is a wounded warrior from Amarillo. He was joined on the course with his son Brennan. Golf is still a new thing to both of them, but feeling the golf communities warmth was something extra special.

"When you see their heart, nothing else matters, "said Cox. "It could be a dollar donation, but its the heart of the public that we see that just gives me chills when I think about it."

Joey Bozic was another golfer on the course. This year marks ten years since he lost both legs and an arm in Iraq. Joey was an avid golfer before going to war. He says the game helped him adjust to life after his injury.

"Golf was my main form of therapy leaving the hospital," Bozic said. "It setting goals and trying to figure out what you want to do next and for me, it was getting back on the golf course, which was fantastic. You can't ask for a better therapy."

Today's honorary chairman was Jackie Burke who served four years as a marine in World War II. Burke says hosting the event was extra special, and he took pride in showing off the medal of honor one of the heroes gave him.

"The country is lucky is has guys like this," Burke said.
