Manvel UIL Changes
UIL realignment causes Manvel drops from a division from 6A to 5A

MANVEL, TX (KTRK) -- Manvel High School will drop from division 6A to 5A, following a decision on Monday by the University Interscholastic League.

A new school in Pearland, Shadow Creek High, will take away students from Manvel High when it opens next school year.

Brooke Honore is one of Manvel's biggest fans. He owns a stone shop right across the street.

"It doesn't matter who we play," Honore said, "We're gonna give a fight."

Honore has watched the school grow from the ground up. He is hoping the downgrade to 5A, is his chance to see the team win big.

"Let's try to get a ring here. We've been trying to get a ring for quite a few years," Honore said. "We've been blessed with great talent, great coaches, great community."

Fans say the biggest barrier in Manvel's road to success has been Katy football. Manvel Head Coach, Kirk Martin told us he agrees with the fans.

"Well, you know, Katy's been whooping our tail the last three years in a row, we can't dodge those guys. They've been really, really good in the quarter finals three years in a row," Martin said. "We've been the second best team probably in the Houston area. So now we dropped down to 5A, hopefully we can regroup and turn this thing on."

Martin said reaction from players on his team has been pretty positive. "Our kids have kind of been used to playing the same people over and over," Martin said. "And I think they're excited for a change."

Fans like Honore are excited about a shot at a championship without Katy in the picture.

"It's a burning desire just to win," Honore said.
