UH, TSU, Rice and Prairie View A&M add to football programs on National Signing Day

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It was perhaps one of the most important days in the lives of many high school football players across the country. For the Houston-area universities, National Signing Day was also a chance to fill much needed positions.

Texas Southern University added 24 student-athletes to its program on National Signing Day.

"We really feel good about the quality of student-athletes that we're bringing into our football program," head football coach Michael Haywood said in a release. "I can't speak highly enough about the level of talent here in the state of Texas. I used to hear Coach Mack Brown say all the time that caliber of football played in this state is some of the best in the country and that's clearly evident by the sheer numbers of highly touted prospects that come out of the state of Texas each and every recruiting season."
