HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Even in pre-practice warmups, James Harden has energy that is contagious.

Harden is on a pace to put up historic numbers. Though eight games he is averaging 31 points with a league leading 13 assists a game. Despite playing seven of their first eight on the road, the Beard has help lead the Rockets to a 5-and-3 start.

"We got a long way to go but we've made progress, just taking it day by day sill fairly new we're going to make mistakes, Harden said. "Guys have bought in, we're playing for each other."

Although Harden is leading the way, he can't carry the team all season. Patrick Beverley will help take the load off. He's expected back in two weeks.

Beverley has an edge and the Rockets are looking forward to his return. They didn't see their win in San Antonio on Wednesday as a statement game.

"We have 75 more games left good win for us especially new team," Harden said.

"We're in a pretty good spot, not too happy but we have potential to be a pretty good team," Head Coach Mike D'Antoni added.
