A Russian goalkeeper was pulled from a soccer match and taken to the hospital after he was struck in the head by a flare fired by someone from the stands, according to an ESPN report.

Igor Akinfeev was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field after the incident, the report stated.

According to the Associate Press, he was playing in the European Championship qualifier game between Montenegro and Russia in Podgorica, Montenegro.
