CROSBY, TX (KTRK) -- With seven seniors on the team, Crosby Head Coach Michelle Trotter knew her girls had a chance to make this a season to remember.

Heart problems last summer would take Coach Trotter off the sidelines for a while, but her team was determined not to let her down.

"we just kept working hard in her eyes we dedicated whole season to her," senior Sydney Carr said.

Coach Trotter missed the first part of the season after her second open heart surgery last July to correct an enlarged Aorta. It was a scary situation for Trotter but she was back on the court as soon as the doctors would let her.

"I didn't want kids to lose momentum when talked to them told them we have to be discipline get up her," Trotter said. "Kids took ownership I think some of that was they didn't want to let me down and they knew we had the potential to do what we are doing."

"She teaches about life and basketball so knowing she was in hospital we couldn't get down. We wanted to play for her and for the community," sophomore Paris Netherly added.

The Lady Cougars head to the state championship for the first time in 20 years. They'll be looking for their first state title. The Crosby High School team has shown the desire and determination that brings those championships.

"It means anything is possible if put in hard work and dedication," senior Shannon Jones said.
