HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A sudden illness as a child caused him to loss much of his vision and his hearing. But 18-year-old Keith Woodruff has managed to overcome every obstacle thrown his way.
On Monday, the Stratford High School golfer was recognized for his hard work both on the golf course and in the classroom. He was given a $5,000 scholarship of champions award from Reliant and the Houston Texans.
"I took up golf after I loss my hearing and vision because from that day on I wasn't allowed to play football and I really wanted to play football, but after I got sick I decided to take something more peaceful," Woodruff said.
Woodruff is one of the co-captains of the Stratford golf team, as well as class valedictorian. He, along with eight other Houston-area high school athletes, will be recognized at the Houston Texans game on December 21 for their accomplishments.
