HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Cy-Fair junior linebacker Patrick Atkinson is working on his power this offseason.

As part of the Cy Fair football conditioning program, Atkinson has added some muscle and broken some records in 2017. Recently, Atkinson broke a 29-year-old school record in the power clean for linebackers.

"I prayed and said, Lord I know there is nothing I can do to get this, if you don't want it, and nothing I can't do if you want me to get it," said Atkinson. "And I stepped up and I did it."

Atkinson comes from a sports family. His grandfather, Texas A&M's John David Crow, was the Heisman trophy winner. His father played for the Aggies "Wrecking Crew" defense in the early 90s.

What catches the coaches eyes is how well-rounded of a young man he is.

"BFND, Bobcat fight never dies, he is always going to fight," said strength and conditioning coach Adam Chew. "It can be in the weight room or the track, he is an excellent student and above all, an excellent young man."
