SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- A 9-year-old boy braved the cold waters and big waves of the Pacific Ocean to swim all the way to Alcatraz.
James Savage took a little more than two hours to swim from San Francisco to Alcatraz and back again.
The boy says he was partially motivated by his father's $100 challenge. That bounty went up to $200 while he was on his way.
James says he considered giving up but he was getting a lot of support from the kayakers who rode with him both ways.
The young swimmer says he is going to swim the length of the Golden Gate Bridge next.
