Houston Astros All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa has been activated from the disabled list after being sidelined six weeks with a torn thumb ligament.

The Astros announced the roster move, which had been expected, before Sunday's afternoon game against the New York Mets.Correa started at shortstop and returned to his customary cleanup spot in the Astros' lineup.

Correa went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the Astros' 8-6 victory over the Mets.

He has been sidelined since July 18 after suffering the injury to his left thumb, which required surgery.

"It's a big lift for us; we just added one of the best players in baseball,'' Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "That's an exciting guy to get back in the middle of the order. There's a presence about having a guy in the middle of the field.''

Correa, 22, is batting .320 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs in 85 games this season. The first-place Astros went just 20-22 with Correa out of the lineup.
