ONTARIO, CA (KTRK) -- A political activist has lost her job and says she's been getting threats after posting a video of her confronting a homeowner about a Mexican flag went viral.

Tressy Capps of Ontario, California says she's was annoyed to see a woman flying the Mexican flag in her front yard. So Capps grabbed a camera, recorded a video of her confronting the woman and posted the clip on YouTube.

"You know we live in America, right? This is the United States. So, why are you flying a Mexican flag in your front yard," you hear Capps ask as a woman at the home. "This is America. Maybe you can move to Mexico if you want to fly your Mexican flag. Does that make sense?"

Sigifredo Banuelos says it was his wife who Capps confronted. His wife speaks very little English and didn't understand what was going on.

Banuelos says the family never meant to offend but instead to celebrate their Mexican heritage. He also points out the family keeps both a U.S. and a Mexican flag flying in their front yard.

It's also legal. The city of Ontario says the Banuelos family has broken no laws by flying the Mexican flag in their front yard.

Since posting the video, Capps says she's been getting threats from people who call her a racist. She claims she's simply a patriot.

"I don't understand what all the hatred is about," Capps told KCAL-TV. "Why everyone is labeling me these names. Racist. I don't understand why everyone is so angry."

Capps also says she was fired from a local real estate company after posting the video.
