HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, volunteers dedicated their time to keeping parks in the Bayou City clean.

Mayor Sylvester Turner joined the volunteers at M.C. Williams Middle School to kick off the Keep Houston Beautiful Day festivities and thank the students who turned out to lend a hand.

Volunteers cleared trash from parks and neighborhoods and planted new trees and flowers.

The event coincides with the Don't mess with Texas Trash-Off and serves as a part of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup.
