Vet determined to fix rusted Baytown flagpole
A local veteran is doing everything he can to get a rusted and forgotten flag pole in front of the Baytown post office fixed

BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- It's rusted and no longer doing the job, for which it was built. A forgotten flagpole in front of the Baytown post office on Market Street has a local veteran a little annoyed.

"Just makes me feel horrible," veteran Jake Daniel said. "First of all, this is the federal governments property. It's just a damn shame the government can't fix their own flagpole and can't fix their own property. It's a damn shame!

Daniel frequents the historic Baytown post office, built in 1936. Months ago, he spoke with employees inside about getting it repaired but nothing happened.

So he wrote a letter to the "Baytown Sun." It became a headline in Friday's paper. He also emailed ABC13.

Daniel says it's even more frustrating that it's not some major renovation for the postmaster.

"Two guys in a bucket truck and a sander could do that in a day. I'd even help them do it," he said.

We contacted the local postmaster and it issued the following statement:

""We are in the process of making the necessary arrangements to repair the Baytown Finance Station flagpole. We are awaiting the arrival of specialized equipment that will allow us to complete the job."
