Well-dressed evacuee reunion
Courtney Fischer reunites with Charles after helping him evacuate during Harvey.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- It was one of the more memorable moments from all the rescues during Hurricane Harvey.

The last time ABC13 was in the neighborhood, the water was knee deep and Courtney was on a boat helping to evacuate residents.

One of those people was Charles Rummelein, a Korean War vet who captured hearts across Houston. He made Houston smile when many people were feeling so hopeless.

Courtney and Charles reunited in northwest Harris County Thursday.

He ended up spending 13 days with his son in Denver while his daughter Diane and her boyfriend tore down sheetrock. Six inches of water was in their home for three days.

Still, Charles and Diane are remaining positive. Charles calls it life endurance. It's that grit that brought him to America from Germany after living through World War II as a child.

As life returns to normal, ABC13 joins Houston in telling Charles 'thank you' for taking our minds off the devastation, even for just a moment.
