PITTSBURGH, PA (KTRK) -- A lot of people might be distraught if they had to call off their wedding at the last minute. But a groom in Pittsburgh is using his breakup to help others.
Phil Laboon says he'd already booked the reception and paid for all the food and drinks. So instead of complaining about all the money he lost, he decided to turn what would have been his wedding day into a fundraiser to provide medical care for children in developing countries.
"It really makes you feel good that we're going to be changing a massive amount of kids' lives. It almost makes it feel like it's not the worst thing in the world that you had to cancel a wedding," said Laboon.
Once word got out, Laboon's phone started ringing with people wanting to buy tickets and make donations. The fundraiser is this Saturday, and Laboon expects to raise up to $50,000.
