Texas-made holiday gift guide
Consider shopping Texas-made holiday gifts this year

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Consider shopping Texas-made holiday gifts this year to keep the state booming. There are several businesses with homegrown favorites for your special someone.

If you're looking for a gift for a cheese lover, you don't have to look too far to find a local one. The Heights-based Houston Dairymaids specialize and sell over 150 artisan cheeses. The company says 30 percent of those are from Texas.

"We seek out items that are unique and handmade in small batches, so chances are that you won't find these at any other places," said owner of Houston Dairymaids Lindsey Schechter.

Create a delicious gift box with a variety of Texas specialty items.

For over 20 years, Saint Arnold has been brewing beer in Houston. A six pack of their holiday ales makes for a good gift. Combine the beer with gift passes to tour the brewery for the ultimate beer lover.

"We love being a Houston thing. We think we do a pretty good job with that. And now you can share us with your friends and family," said Saint Arnold's Beer Guy Lennie Ambrose.

For the lavender lover, Lavande Farms grows and produces their own lavender products from Belville and Chappell Hill, Texas. Lavande has a variety of gift ideas for the home, body, and even for cooking.

For the beauty maven, the Upper Hand Salon created the haircare and makeup line DL Row, which is world spelled backwards.

"We have beautiful gift boxes that start at about $45, and we can also customize one for you. The best part is, we're giving back 4 percent of all sales to Community in Schools Houston," said salon owner Rachel Gower.

You can never go wrong with buying a woman an accessory - they'll always fit! Houston jewelry designer Monica Happ makes organic and feminine pieces in gold, silver, and precious stones.

If you're looking for timeless, quality-made clothing for a gal, Houston's Claridge and King may be the answer. Sisters Laurann Claridge and Lizabeth King designed and launched their fashion line in 2008. They recently designed a shirt for Gwyneth Paltrow and are featured in her newsletter Goop this week.

Every Texan can use a pair of cowboy boots, and why not splurge on Luccheses, which are handmade in Texas for 132 years.

"The boots are made in El Paso, TX. They're handmade. They touch 300 hands before they are completely done," said Lucchese's director of retail Jay Hamby.

In the new Lucchese store in Highland Village, Lucchese features pumps, riding boots, booties, belts, and handbags.
