Shoe shopping: Rethinking heels and prices

Shoe shopping has changed: more wedges and flats, but that doesn't mean the stiletto is dead.

"To me, traditional high fashion women's shoes is abusive and women are finally realizing that 'no, I don't want to hurt," podiatrist and shoe designer Dr. Joen Oloff said.

Shoemakers like Dr. Oloff are rethinking heels, creating their own lines with some modern design and technology.

One trick to make heels more comfortable, reduce the angle

"Where in a traditional heel, all of the weight of the body is in the ball of the foot, in my heels, your weight is evenly distributed throughout the foot," Oloff said.

There's good news in the 3-inch heels, too.

So-called comfort shoes have gotten more fashionable.

The Corso Como is a cult favorite.

Pairs from Easy Spirit and Rockport have so much padding.

In fact, ABC's Becky Worley grabbed a power tool and cut open a comfort shoe from Rockport and compared it to a standard pair of heels.

"If you look at the comfort shoe, there's so much more foam, and feels like an athletic shoe," Worley said.
