Retailers reveal Thanksgiving, Black Friday deals

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's been a crazy couple of years for retailers. Not long ago, they would never release details of their Black Friday deals or be open on Thanksgiving Day, but times have changed.

Black Friday may slowly be going away; in its place are deals on Thanksgiving -- deals we already know about a full two weeks in advance.

4K HDTV sets offer a picture so realistic that Rodrigo Ganem's baby thinks the images are real.

"It's so real that he tries to touch," Ganem said.

The big draw back has been the price, but now Best Buy will offer a 4K TV for less than $1,000. But it won't on Black Friday; this deal is for Thanksgiving Day.

Is it enough to drag Ganem away from the dinner table?

"If it's a very good deal? Maybe yes," Ganem said.

Whether you want a TV or not, this may be the year Black Friday is turned upside down. Retailers who were once secretive of their offers are touting them so you have no doubt about where to go and when.

"There is not just one place that they are going there are a lot of different locations to go to, a lot of different stores, so we want make sure as a company that everybody knows what our promotions so that they can put that into their plan," said Alex Winterich with Best Buy.

Stores are also expanding their Thanksgiving hours, hoping to draw more people than last year.

Walmart hopes its $218 50-inch TV and deeply discounted Beats headsets will be a big draw. It's also found a way to take the mad dash out of super sales.

"If we do run out, they get a ticket that they can now take up to the front register, they can pay for the item, they can register online and they will get that item in before Christmas," said Vic Pina with Walmart.

The craziness starts early on Thanksgiving, Radio Shack open at 8 am on turkey day. Stores are giving away gift cards with purchases and even starting the sales on line before the brick and mortar stores even get a change to open.
